Introduction
Since ancient times sounds and vibrations have been used for healing. Everything in our cosmos including humans is in a state of constant vibrational flux. Like the keys on a piano–if out of tune–can sound harsh and unpleasant; when our body’s vibration is out of tune or incoherent, we can develop stress and illness.
A sound bath session is a deeply immersive whole body auditory experience, promoting wellness, relaxation, and stress relief. Most of us experience different levels of stress in our daily lives, and stress is one main contributor to ill health and suffering. We now have more awareness and understanding of the benefits of deep relaxation on our mental, physical and spiritual health and wellness and this state of relaxation can be experienced during a sound bath session.
Many different terms are used for this type of healing–sound bath, sound healing, sound meditation, sound journey, sound wellness–they are one and all the same.
Facilitator: Vikram Singh
Participants: private one-on-one, couples, and group of minimum 4 attendees
Sound healing session begins when everyone is laying comfortably on a floor mat or seated comfortably with their eyes closed; consciously aware they are in a safe and calming place. The facilitator then provides a brief introduction of the instruments used and the experience to expect during the session. After which a conscious intention is set for a desired result. A guided meditation by the facilitator directs you to focus on your breath, your thoughts and mentally scan your physical body; thereby encouraging you to slowly take your attention and focus away from all external stimuli and quietening your mind by going within.
Then various instruments are played generating harmonious sounds along with instruments creating dissonant sounds, this is done to break and release stuck patterns and energies. Some of the instruments used are drums, gongs, metal and crystal singing bowls, chimes, voice toning and more. The facilitator plays the instruments while seated, in a walk-around and by placing the instrument (such as singing bowls) directly on a participant’s body if permission has been granted at the beginning of the session. Furthermore, anytime during the session while listening to a sound if a participant feels uncomfortable, they can raise their hand and feel free to sit up or stretch; our main aim during the session is to feel calm, relaxed, and peaceful.
The instruments used in a sound bath create overtones along with fundamental frequencies, where each frequency resonates with different parts of the body as well as emotions. These sounds allow the brain waves to slow down from Beta to Alpha to Theta and sometimes even to Delta and move from an active state to a more relaxed state. One can even experience a dreamlike state. It is also very common and alright to drift into sleep during the sound bath–know that even in a sleeping state the sounds are working and you are experiencing the benefits of these healing sounds on a cellular level. Some participants shift into a meditative state, experiencing or visualizing spiritual connections, an expanded consciousness, as well as a heightened state of awareness including gaining an improved perspective on the circumstances in their life, their physical bodies, and emotions.
The purpose of this experience is to feel restful and relaxed, and indulge in self-inquiry and self-discovery. The more we experience this, the more we can introspect and connect with our inner selves on a much deeper level to heal ourselves. We can also receive clarity, guidance and answers that may transform our life.
The sounds heard during the session create harmony and coherence in our mind leading our body to reach its optimum state and this is where healing can occur and we nurture our mind, body and spirit.
The session begins with soothing and gentle sounds to settle and move you (the participant) into a relaxed state; when the sound bath session is in its middle stage the intensity of the sounds increases to aid you (the participant) in releasing stuck energies and patterns; as we approach the end of the sound bath session the intensity of the sounds is slowed down for a gentle transition back to our body and awareness. I (the facilitator) will then end the session speaking a few words in my own voice guiding you (the participant) back in the body. After the session has ended you (the participant) can continue to feel the effects (emotional and/or mild physical sensations) of the sound bath for the next 24-48 hours.
In summary, the benefits of the Sound Bath are–reduction of stress and anxiety, feeling deeply relaxed, improved quality of sleep, overall physical wellness, pain reduction, clearing of blocked energy or a breaking of unhealthy energy patterns–specially patterns not serving our higher good; a shifting of focus away from negative to positive emotions, sense of calm and peace, balancing of the chakra’s, improved mental clarity and focus, enhanced spiritual connection and expanded awareness and consciousness of the holistic and harmonious connection of our mind, body and spirit and everything around us.
